Long Beach Township accounts for two-thirds of Long Beach Island’s shoreline, but its 17 communities are not all adjoining. In fact, these small villages lie along both north and the south ends as well as the centermost part of the island. Loveladies, Brant Beach, the Dunes, North Beach Haven, and Holgate are among the towns that make up Long Beach Township. Beach tags are required for everyone over 12 years of age, and they can be purchased daily or weekly. All of the beaches in Long Beach Township are guarded daily. If something wild interests you – wild creatures, that is – visit the Holgate Wildlife Sanctuary. It is New Jersey’s only wild beach, stretching for three miles and there are birds aplenty in their natural habitat. Bring your camera because you will have a bird’s eye view of up to 300 species of these creatures. In addition to birds, you might be lucky enough to catch some glimpses of dolphins playing in the sea. Where else but in Holgate could you enjoy such simple pleasures? On a rainy day, the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences, located in Loveladies, offers the opportunity to tour exhibits or sign up for an art class. Of course, there are lots of typical things to do in Long Beach Township that are synonymous with the Jersey shore. There are plenty of spots to catch some rays, toss a line in, or hop on a Jet-ski. Whether you are looking for a jam-packed day filled with adventure or simply in the mood to relax and unwind, Long Beach Township is ready to welcome you with open arms. |
