Harvey Cedars

Harvey Cedars can provide a feast for the eyes or the palate or both, depending on what is on your agenda. Harvey was not an early resident here. Many years ago, the town was covered with cedar trees and its inhabitants spent their time harvesting salt hay and seaweed. Eventually, the name evolved from Harvest Cedars to Harvey Cedars. It proved a hot spot for summer tourists back in the 1800s and if you stop by for a visit, you will know why.

The small village of Harvey Cedars is quiet and quaint. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find the right spread of beach, the ideal fishing spot to catch the mother lode, or a fantastic lobster feast. With an interesting mix of activities, there is more to do than just take a dip in the ocean.

Family entertainment is important to Harvey Cedars, which is nestled between North Beach and Loveladies. Throughout the summer, there are activities tailored to children. The mascot of Harvey Cedars should be the blue claw crab, a result of the devotion that the crustacean receives from the natives and tourists alike. Besides the bay which is filled with the delectable delicacy – minus the drawn butter – Harvey Cedars plays host to the annual Blue Claw Crab Festival. Stop by to watch the crab races.

Although there is no amusement park or other big draw for crowds, visitors can indulge in a little exercise. Sunset Park is Harvey Cedars’ recreational facility, complete with basketball courts, baseball fields, and a playground.

Inhale that salty, rich sea air and it will suddenly become apparent. No wonder people have been vacationing here for almost two centuries.
