Located just five minutes from the thriving city of Atlantic City, the beauty found on the island of Brigantine is nothing less than spectacular. The beaches are magnificent and the overall atmosphere relaxing and pleasant. In addition to the natural beauty, you will discover a wonderful variety of things to do such a boating, fishing, golf, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and more!

Other benefits of visiting Brigantine are the incredible educational center, museums, and lighthouses. Additional features include incredible restaurants that offer local flavor and quant hotels and summer homes that all lend themselves to the charm of this city. Most people that visit Brigantine are in awe of the scenery, breath taking sunsets, and the gentle waves rolling up to the white, sandy beaches.

Because it is located so close to Atlantic City, Brigantine is a busy place that has a fun and exciting nightlife of its own. The great aspect of visiting this shore community is that you can lay out on the sand with other tanned bodies, pack up in the afternoon for some historical sightseeing, and then hit the town or Atlantic City at night for some serious dancing, gambling, and entertainment.

Other aspects that make Brigantine such an incredible vacation destination is that it is rich in history dating to the 1500s. It was during this time that the Lenape Indians discovered this incredible playground in the sun. Soon, Europeans found their way to the Jersey shoreline and they too enjoyed the amazing benefits of Brigantine. As ships made their way to the area, wrecks became a serious problem. In fact, within a 200-year timeframe, more than 300 wrecks occurred. One of the types of ships known for coming to this shore community was the Brigantine and thus, the name.

Brigantine has been the home to plantation owners, American privateers, which is a cross between patriot and pirate, soon followed by the building of the salt manufacturing and shipbuilding industry. Interestingly, at one time Brigantine was a hot spot for whalers waiting to attack migrating whales coming in from New England. However, today the community of Brigantine now works together to help sick and injured whales as well as seals, dolphins, sea turtles, and other forms of sea life.

Although Brigantine experienced a major setback after the stock market crash of 1929, the overwhelming depression that followed, and was then hit hard by destructive storms in 1944 and 1962, this community has stood the test of time and become one of the major destination choices for the south shores of New Jersey.
