When planning your next family vacation, a premiere destination to consider is the beautiful shore community of Avalon, New Jersey. Providing hours of outdoor fun and relaxation, you can frolic in the ocean, go crabbing, or fishing, or simply relax on the five miles of beach, while soaking up the sun. Besides the friendly people and multitude of activities, you will be impressed with the island itself, which is known for extending one mile beyond that of neighboring islands. Since Avalon is the home to one of only a few remaining high dune systems on the entire East Coast, Dune Walks are scheduled from late June to late August.

For protection, the beaches are manned by qualified lifeguards, and specific areas of the beach are designated for various activities. For example, one area accommodates Frisbee and volleyball players, another area is set aside for inflatable objects, and yet another area for surfing. You can enjoy a family picnic on the beach but keep in mind that Avalon takes pride in their town and strictly enforces rules against littering, drinking alcohol, building fires, playing loud music, or using inappropriate language. While some people may snub their nose at such rules, most families appreciate the wholesome atmosphere that Avalon provides.

With the family-oriented activities, cultural arts, special events held throughout the year, and a variety of shops, restaurants, and accommodations, it is easy to see why Avalon is the perfect choice for a family vacation.
