June is Heating Up at the Jersey Shore! The summer months in the Jersey Shore, New Jersey are heating up! This time of the year is when families, couples, and college students flock to magnificent cities that run up and down the shoreline. What makes this area such a great attraction is the variety of events. Each month, something new and exciting takes place, making the Jersey Shore the ideal June getaway spot for everyone! Whether looking for a new destination where you can swim, boat, or ski, a restful retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, or somewhere special to shop, dine, and enjoy phenomenal entertainment, you will find it here. Atlantic City For most people, when they hear the words, “Atlantic City”, they immediately think of casino gambling. Without doubt, Atlantic City is a vibrant city that features some of the most electrifying nightlife anywhere in the country. As you drive through the streets, you will see bright, blinking lights, welcoming you to beautiful casinos such as those run by Donald Trump. However, Atlantic City is much more than gambling. Drawing visitors in from around the world, you will quickly discover that when it comes to big-name entertainment, award-winning restaurants, and dancing into the wee hours of the morning, this city has it all. Although most people visit this destination because of the excitement offered, do not be put off if you simply want a fun place to visit. For instance, travelers interested in the past will find a rich history that has changed this area of the country for the good and people that love nature and beauty will discover breathtaking sunsets from the infamous Boardwalk, beautiful beaches, and an abundance of natural resources to enjoy. During June, we would recommend that you take in a show at any of the many hotels and theaters. One that is very popular for all ages is the “Legends in Concert”, which takes place at Bally’s Palace Theater. The shows begin at 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7:30 and 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. Another excellent choice is “Singin’ in the Rain”, which runs from April 30 through June 13 at Trump Plaza. Then for a little comedy relief, you can visit the Tropicana where local talent and headliners will keep you in stitches. Additionally, the Improve at Resorts also features some incredible talent, sure to make you laugh. Avalon If you head down to the northern most end of the seven-mile stretch of beach, you will find the charming town of Avalon. Although Avalon offers many wonderful experiences, the famous dunes are what catapulted this town to stardom. With many different tours available, the entire family would have a blast in June while visiting Avalon. These dunes have been preserved for years. Today, they provide a home for magnificent natural vegetation. The children will also love the beautiful parks and playgrounds located around Avalon. The month of June is a very busy time in this normally quiet town. This month kicks off when the Holy Redeemer Nun Run occurs on June 5. The race begins at 9:00 a.m. but if you are interested in participating, you will need to register the day before from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Also on June 5, you do not want to miss the Gene Boney Band playing Big Band at the Avalon Community Hall. For just $5 admission, you can start dancing at 8:30 p.m. Then, on June 7, the Avalon Garden Club Flower Show takes place starting at noon, the Langley Air Force Base Clarinet Quartet puts on a concert on June 15 and on June 19, another race takes place called the Historical Society Avalon Race, but wait, there is more. One June 26, head down to 29th Street and Avalon from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. where you can enjoy the amazing Chamber Craft Fair. Here, you will find just about anything imaginable! On this same day at 20th Street Beach, you can enjoy a free beach concert performed by Roxy Rush from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Finally, June 27 features the Performing Arts 15th Annual Arts Show that you do not want to miss. Brigantine The unique thing about Brigantine is that you get the best of both worlds. In the actual town, you will find beautiful beaches and an environment that is calm and tranquil. This town also offers many fun things for the entire family such as swimming, boating, fishing, golf, and more. Brigantine is also a cultured town in that here you will find fascinating history captured in wonderful museums and lighthouses. Then, while Brigantine itself is a charming town with stunning scenery and quiet evenings to stroll along the beach at sunset, you are just a few minutes from the fast lifestyle of Atlantic City. This means you can enjoy calmer functions in Brigantine and then if you want to spice things up, simply take a short drive to a completely different atmosphere. In the month of June, Brigantine offers many nice things. For example, on June 4, the “Young at Heart Seniors Club” meets, welcoming any senior that wants to come. Other activities include Shalom meetings, book club discussions, and more. Of course, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center is always a wonderful experience. This organization dedicates its work to rescuing mammals and the releasing them back into the wild after being nursed back to health. Children and adults alike enjoy this visit and the education it provides. When looking for a place to kick back and relax, Brigantine is the perfect choice. Cape May Cape May is always a great choice when looking for a travel destination. While this seaside town offers an abundance of fun things to do, its claim to fame is being the oldest seashore resort in the entire country. The town is filled with Victorian architecture, lending more charm to an already quant place. Because of all that Cape May has to offer, which is a nice blend of relaxation and excitement, many famous people have come here to experience the history of themselves. Among those identified, the list includes Robert E. Lee, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, and P.T. Barnum of the famous Barnum and Bailey Circus. If you plan to travel to Cape May, New Jersey in June, get ready for a wonderful time. The month begins on June 1 and 2 with the Senior Citizens Arts & Crafts Show held at the local Convention Hall. Longport Longport is the perfect destination when needing to escape to a peaceful place. Although Longport does not offer a full calendar of events like you will find with the other towns at the Jersey Shore, it is no less a great place to visit. What makes Longport such a great attraction is the natural beauty you find here. The entire atmosphere is serene with a gorgeous beach and magical sunsets. Interestingly, Longport is the one town that does not offer sleeping accommodations other than just a handful of summer homes. Therefore, what you will find in Longport is that people typically take a day trip and then head back to one of the other towns for dining and entertainment. While visiting Longport in June, a few recommendations would be to swim, boat, or fish during the day and then at night, head to Atlantic City, which is just a short drive away. This town is quiet, making it the ideal destination for couples or families that want to enjoy the natural beauty offered. The interesting fact about Margate is that Atlantic City is less than one mile down the road. In fact, if you were to walk from Margate to Atlantic City, you would notice a very gradual change in scenery from simplistic and tranquil to bright lights and many people. Because of its close proximity to a large metropolitan, the activities in the month of June lean toward what is available in Atlantic City. You can gamble, go dancing, enjoy amazing restaurants, take in a show, visit a comedy club, and so on. If you do want to stick around Margate, after swimming in the ocean, you can take the entire family to Margate Miniature Golf on Jefferson Avenue for good, clean family fun. Strathmere While some of the towns at the Jersey Shore are commercial, Strathmere is the least commercial of them all. Many people describe this town as being “sleepy”, which is not a bad thing. Regarding activities, you will not find much in Strathmere. Instead, what you do find is friendly people, a beautiful beach, and a few restaurants. However, remember that other faster paced towns are nearby and when it comes to swimming, no beach tags are required! Stone Harbor Located about mid-point along the Jersey short, people have been coming to this small town for more than 75 years. The town is a nice, clean community that offers a few restaurants, great shopping district, and a peaceful environment. Typically, when people come to Stone Harbor, it is to enjoy the great outdoors. Here, you can spend your days swimming, surfing, sailing, fishing, jet skiing, playing volleyball, collecting seashells, or just soaking up the warm sun. During the summer months, the Stone Harbor Art and Craft Show draw in crowds by the thousands, awakening this otherwise quiet town. In addition to this event, there is also the Hobie Cat Races that create a wonderful day at the beach for the entire family. Another wonderful place to visit that kids of all ages will enjoy is the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary. This National Landmark spans 21 acres and is a safe haven for many beautiful Herons. Other summer activities include the amusement piers, a zoo, the boardwalk, and many cultural and historical sites. Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood First, both of these towns sit by each other so we will cover them together. For Wildwood Crest, you cannot help but notice the beautiful white beaches. In fact, these beaches are known for being the wildest of all at the Jersey Shore. This town is busy, hosting thousands of vacationers every day. For fun and excitement, you will almost feel overwhelmed by all there is to do. For starters, Wildwood Crest has four entertainment piers, movie theaters, great shops, restaurants, and more. During the day, this town glistens from the sunlight and then at night, it glistens from the lights of the skyline. Summer beach concerts, kite festivals, marble tournaments, beauty pageants, and more are all of the intrigue of Wildwood Crest. For North Wildwood, you can enjoy free beaches, a wonderful, fun-filled boardwalk, and unrivaled accommodations. This pleasant town makes you feel right at home.
