The Jersey Shore is for Lovers!

Brrr. It takes guts and stamina to plunge into the frigid waters of the Atlantic Ocean in the middle of winter, but that’s just what hundreds of courageous souls do every Valentine’s Day. Sea Isle City is the host of the annual Polar Bear Plunge, an event that attracts thousands of curious onlookers every year. The town has named the Polar Bear Plunge one of the best ways to lose the mid-winter blues, and it’s little wonder why with the excited atmosphere and the camaraderie that is born between participants. After the plunge, swimmers and spectators are invited to a post-party at La Costa Lounge where partygoers can warm up and marvel at the events of the day. Next year’s Polar Bear Plunge kicks off at 41st Street Beach at 2 p.m.

Letting go off all inhibitions and jumping into the ocean isn’t exactly everyone’s ideal way to spend the most romantic day of the year, but New Jersey offers plenty of romantic and cozy options for couples who want to celebrate cupid’s arrow, or for those just looking for a quiet evening out.

Ocean City, Cape May and Avalon are home to a plethora of unique restaurants, featuring scrumptious menus, that are the perfect backdrop for a Valentine’s date. Hand-in-hand couples can watch as the sun falls asleep behind the ocean from their table at the Deauville Inn in Ocean City, where the only thing that rivals the sunset is the inn’s luscious menu. Rich in history, the Deauville Inn features a menu of fresh seafood, pasta and steak. For those who make Valentine’s Day a family event, kids will love their wide range of choices on the kids’ menu.

For an evening of true elegance and style, try the Washington Inn in Cape May, snuggled amongst the picturesque homes of Washington Street. Huddled at a romantic fireside table, sweethearts can toast their love with a premium wine, chosen from one of the best wine collections in the country before debating the perfect choice from a long list of entrees that includes Pepper Rubbed Atlantic Salmon, Herb Roasted Free Range Chicken Breast and Grilled Boneless Tuscan Shelled Steak.

Valentine’s Day at the Mirage Restaurant, tucked away in beautiful Avalon, is highlighted by world-class chefs and a generous menu. A pianist provides an ambient atmosphere, and a stroll along the shore is one way to cap a romantic evening.

Romantic getaways to New Jersey over Valentine’s Day are vastly popular due to the many quaint, charming inns and bed and breakfasts that provide both romantic accommodation and seclusion. At the top of the list of Most Romantic Inns In America is the Queen Victoria Bed & Breakfast in Cape May, where couples can start their stay off with an in-room massage or relax in a whirlpool tub while toasting with a tall glass of champagne. Mornings can only start off right with a delicious, homemade breakfast, and the day ends on the perfect note: with a piece of chocolate on the turned down bed.

Begin every morning and end every evening with a long, romantic walk along the beach then head back to the seaside bed and breakfast Colonnade Inn, a four-story hotel that is decorated in Victorian style. Share a moonlit kiss on the wraparound porch, or stroll through the gardens before heading out for a Valentine’s evening on the town.

Cape May, Sea Isle City, Ocean City, Wildwood and Avalon all offer first-rate restaurants and romantic inns and bed and breakfasts, providing the perfect combination for a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway.
