A Shoobees Guide to the Jersey Shore![]() |
|
Winter Fun at the New Jersey Shore! There’s nothing like summer at the Jersey shore. Soft ice cream cones, the boardwalk, and the ocean lapping at our feet just lure us back from year to year. Yet, the shore is also one of our best kept winter secrets. There are more things to do than you ever imagined. So, grab your coat and get ready for fun along our beautiful coast! Bring the kids to Barnegat on Saturday December 3 to feast with the old guy in the red suit. That’s right. It’s Breakfast with Santa at 9:00 AM at the Barnegat Community Center. Later on, Santa will take a tour of Barnegat and greet the little ones at the Birdsall Street Firehouse. Get into the spirit in Ship Bottom on the same day if you can’t make breakfast. Santa Claus will be cruising through in the 26th Annual Christmas Parade. Take the kids to the casino. Well, don’t take them gambling, but let them experience the IMAX Theatre at the Tropicana. Until December 15, you and your offspring, best friend, significant other, or twin can take in the Polar Express in 3D and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Don’t forget the popcorn and Junior Mints to ensure the complete movie experience. Looking for a fun, safe event to bring the family to on New Year’s Eve? Spend the day and evening in Ocean City at the town’s First Night 2006 festival. There are lots of great things to do all over the place. Let the kids enjoy the rides at Gillian’s Wonderland Pier and take in the sounds of the Drifters at the Music Pier. The Ocean City Pops will perform at the Ocean City Tabernacle, and a magic show will take place at the high school gym. You’ll ring in the new year and have fun with your loved ones and friends. After you’ve recovered from celebrating New Year’s, the excitement continues. Head down to the shops on Asbury Avenue to buy all those gifts you didn’t get on Christmas – the stores are open from 11 AM to 4 PM on New Year’s Day. That cold night air shouldn’t keep you cooped up at home. Instead, kick up your heels and dance, baby! The LBI Foundation of the Arts and Sciences in Loveladies offers Evenings of Dance periodically throughout the winter months to keep the locals on their toes. The dancing begins at 7 PM and lasts three hours, and refreshments are served for those who need a little sustenance. Among the dates for Evenings of Dance are January 6 and February 17. If your heart belongs to Fido or Rover, drop by the Wildwood Convention Center February 4 and 5 for the Boardwalk Kennel Club Dog Show. Cheer for your favorite furry creature as he or she competes for prizes. The winds blowing off the Atlantic Ocean might be frigid at this time of the year, but the heat is intense in Atlantic City. Bon Jovi returns to its home state of New Jersey at the Boardwalk Hall on February 4. The Borgata Casino is the place to be on February 11 if you want to catch the new INXS. The rock band was big in the 80s and is back touring again with a new lead singer. The New Year’s Day Parade might be long over in Philly, but you can catch the sights and sounds of the Mummers in the Show of Shows at the Boardwalk Hall on February 18. Antiques aren’t boring when you are exploring the seaside town of Cape May in the winter. Spend the weekend of February 19 and 20 in Cape May Convention Hall and shop for lots of beautiful collectibles. Whether it’s old jewelry, crystal, or furniture that you have your heart set on, you’ll find it here. Forget TV dinners and cooking on Friday February 25. Head to the Mad Batter in Cape May for a four-course French dinner to whet your appetite. Wine is served with every course and you’ll walk away with a full tummy and a touch of culture on the art of fine French food. There’s no reason for you to hibernate during the winter months. At the shore, there is always something to do and who knows? You might find yourself having even more fun in the middle of January then you would on the beach in July.
