If you were looking for a town along the Jersey Shore that is a little less commercial and a little more tranquil, then Strathmere would be it. Here, the views are gorgeous and set back from the hustle and bustle of the big city but yet close enough to Atlantic City and other towns where you can travel for a night of excitement.

Because Strathmere is not commercial, most of the activities are elsewhere, but again, just a short drive away. However, if you want a beach where you can walk and enjoy a sunset, a fine restaurant with mouth-watering seafood, or a town that offers the best in relaxation, this would be your number one choice.

Ocean City

Are you looking for the perfect family, vacation spot? Ocean City is considered just that. What makes this town along the Jersey Shore so great is that it offers a number of things to do, regardless of age, but this town is also just 20 minutes from Atlantic City where the lights never go out. That means you can enjoy the festivities of Ocean City or head to the big city.

Margate

Situated in the southern portion of the Jersey Shore you will find the small town of Margate. This town was originally part of the Egg Harbor Township but in 1885, it broke away becoming the Borough of South Atlantic City. The name “Margate” translates to “Gateway to the Sea” and when you visit, you will understand why.

The town itself is small and very quaint but since it is just a short walk from Atlantic City, you get the best of both worlds. Typically, people that visit Margate make their way to the bright lights of the bigger city but some enjoy the few activities sponsored in Margate. For example, on September 1, the Try and Buy Fashion Show is a fun way to buy clothes. Held at the Beth El Synagogue, for just $10, you can enjoy the show and a dairy dinner. Then on September 11, you can participate in a 10k race, honorably called “10K for the USA.” The race begins in Margate and then comes to a completion in Atlantic City. The final event occurs on September 20 and 21, which is the Margate Fall Funfest by the Bay.

Longport

The town of Longport is a wonderful, peaceful seashore community that is nestled at the end of Absecon Island. Although Longport is primarily a residential area, you can come here to enjoy the sandy beaches. Additionally, you will find that you can rent homes here but they book up fast since there are no hotels. Therefore, if you want to stay in the lovely town of Longport, you will need to book in advance.

Ventnor

This pleasant community along the Jersey Shore is similar to Longport, being a residential area where people live in peace and quiet. However, you will find some amazing restaurants in Ventnor where you can enjoy a fabulous seafood meal while taking in magnificent scenery. In Ventnor, there are some bed and breakfast inns and a few hotels so lodging is not as much a challenge as it is in Longport. For a romantic getaway where you can take leisurely walks along the beach at sunset or drive a short distance to Atlantic City, Ventnor is the perfect choice.
