A Shoobees Guide to the Jersey Shore![]() |
|
Halloween By The Sea As school begins and we get back into the swing of fall, here’s a suggestion to help ease the longing you feel for the shore…pack the kids in the car and head back down there! The Jersey shore is bustling with activity during fall with many events to get you into the Halloween spirit…what a perfect excuse to head back down the shore! If a Halloween Parade is what you are looking for, Cape May kicks off the Halloween season on October 21st with their annual parade of ghouls. Following the parade, head on over to the Emlen Physick Estate for a Halloween party. The Estate, built in 1879, is a beautiful Victorian home, which has been restored to its original splendor and is now used as a museum. Head to downtown Ocean City on October 23rd for their annual parade and you can still make it to Sea Isle City’s parade on October 24th, which will be followed by a Dance Party. Wildwood’s streets will also have ghouls and goblins parading down Atlantic Avenue on October 24th and D'Amico’s Skating Rink, located in North Wildwood, will be having a Halloween Skate Party following their parade. For those feeling very brave, haunted hay rides will be offered in Ocean City on October 24th and you will want to stay the for weekend so you won’t miss the Haunted House on October 25th at City Hall. If you had planned on spending the weekend in Cape May, you will also find haunted hay rides at the Cape May Zoo. Ghost Tours, Inc., located at 9th and Central Avenues in Ocean City, will send shivers up your spine with local ghost stories on their walking tour being held on October 25th. Don’t believe in ghosts? Perhaps a trip to the Somewhere Inn Time Mansion, located at 106 Central Avenue in Ocean City, will change your mind. Members of South Jersey Paranormal Research, a group of real life ghostbusters, have conducted investigations at the inn and they say it’s haunted…for real! Tours of this beautifully appointed bed and breakfast and presentations of the evidence collected there will be presented on October 24th and 25th. Check the inn’s website at www.ocmansion.com for presentation times. After being spooked by some real ghosts, you will probably want to unwind on Ocean City’s boardwalk where the Ocean City Pop Band will be holding a Halloween concert on October 25th. Or, if you just want to bask in the ambience of the season on a crisp fall night, stroll around Cape May to see the homes entered in their Halloween decorating contest. You can’t get much scarier than the king of ghouls, Frankenstein! You won’t want to miss the Frankenstein Memorabilia Show on October 24th and 25th in Ocean City’s Stainton’s Square. To bring your weekend to a close, spend October 26th on Ocean City’s boardwalk and enjoy all the rides at Wonderland for only $10 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM. Or spend Family Day at the Cape May Zoo where there will be games, crafts, a scavenger hunt for the kids and many more family activities. Imagine all of the puzzled looks you’ll get at the office on Monday morning when your co-workers ask how you spent your weekend and you reply, “We went down the shore”. Tell them what you now know…You don’t have to wait until Memorial Day to head back down the shore!
